Facing the Gulf of Thailand with the Mekong Delta flowing through it, and bordering Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, this ancient kingdom has undergone many changes and upheavals during its long history. Mostly famous for the UNESCO Heritage Angkor complex dating from the ancient Khmer empire in Siem Reap, situated between the Tonle Sap lake and the Kulen mountains. The capital Phnom Penh features the Royal palace and bustling markets, while further south lie the Cardamom mountains and Kampot, famous for their black pepper and wildlife.  With a wonderful depth of cultural legacy in both handicrafts and history, the country is a treasure trove to visitors.
